The Fruit Plate.

{Not really Tashi's house. Just a photo of a place here in NYC.}

Tomorrow I'm heading to my cook friend's apartment. Seems simple enough, right?

Not so much. My friend is Tashi. He's from Tibet and his mom is making me and a few other cooks some delicious momos aka dumplings for all you Americans out there. (Um, I googled too. Don't worry).

Anyway, so Tashi family doesn't speak English so he will be translating and well, I asked what I could bring over and was told -- fruit (and candy for his little sister) Then I kinda started to panic.

Fruit! Like in a basket? Or just a bunch of bananas? Should I make a fruit salad? And I was told, none of the above. Just fruit.

I find different cultures to be quite fascinating and I love learning all I can but one thing I don't want to do is accidentally disrespect anyone.

So, what would you do? How would you bring over the fruit?

Gosh, Sum...I have no clue. I would either bring your own variation of a fruit basket...maybe peaches or pears, whatever looks good and is in season...in a cute little basket of something (although, yeah, that is essentially what your friend said not to bring. lol)If you wanted to have something more prepared, maybe some fruit kebobs? I don't know, girl...I'm sure whatever you bring will be well received...hopefully you can't insult with fruit :) Have Fun! xoxo

I would probably look on Pinterest for the prettiest fruit plates around and try to replicate one of them. If it's colorful, everyone will love it, right?

One thing I know: they will love YOU. :)

Me? I'd wear it on my head in an exciting hat, ala Carmen Miranda. Good luck with all that. eeekkkk!!!!

I'd do a fruit plate, with cut up fruit. I'd feel weird taking a bunch of whole fruit to a dinner and a fruit plate isn't all mixed up like a fruit salad. Plus you can make it pretty!

Also, I'm so glad to see you blogging again!!!

have you heard of Edible Arrangements? They have cool fruits on a stick and they look pretty!

I would google his culture and see what kind of fruit they prefer to eat and go from there. :). Have fun!!

I'd do a fruit blend -- grapes, strawberries, blueberries, maybe with a dip, too.

Haha so funny. I'd go to a market and buy what's in season. Maybe you could find a Tibetan market? That's a lot of work though.

I totally thought of a dang basket also. It must be a southern thing or maybe not... who knows. Just stay true to yourself and your fruit, Summer Girl.. you are fabulous and they will LOVE you no matter what fruit you bring along!
Have I told you lately how much I miss you! I need a trip back to NYC.

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. YOU!!!
